Past Meetings

Thursday Aug 12. There was a travelogue on diving in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Micronesia. The food was great as well as the service. The topic interested all that attended.

Thursday July 8. We had our first meeting at Bocci's in Durham. The food was great and so was the room. We had a wonderful presentation from Julio Guteirrez on fish identification. Julio was very informative and was well received by all that attended. We also had our drawing for the annual Raffle and Brett Russ was the winner!

Saturday June 12. BCD held our annual Season Kick-off at Fantasy Lake. There were over 35 people in attendance and a good time was had by all. There were 2 different SCUBA classes that day, the Open Water Checkouts with Grace Wells and the Divemaster class with Mike Muller. We served hamburgers and hotdogs and assorted goodies. John Frye was the cook this year giving Mike Mantell abreak this time. Thanks to all that showed

Thursday May 13th. Our meeting was held at DAN headquarters in Durham. Dr Neal Pollack was the guest speaker. He spoke on Diving Fitness. It weas very interesting and it did stimulate a lot of feedback from the audience. This was a very important discussion as not all of us are in peak diving shape, especially me! It was very enlightening. We served pizza and soda to add to insult! Many of us growned when we heard what conditions we should be in if we are diving. Well back to the gym for me! Next event is the Spring Kick-off Picnic at Rolesville June 12th.

Saturday April 10th. WW/BCD held our 3rd annual Used Equipment Sale. We had more vendors than ever. It was pretty busy to whole time. A lot of scuba gear did get moved!. Thanks to Greg Yavelak for running this along with Barbara Lothian. It was a success. Later that evening WW /BCD held our annual Spring Party and Pig Pickin'. We had over 145 people attending. There was a lot of fun and the music from The Durham JAzz Orchestra was incredible. Thanks again to Lindsey Bute and his band members. Also we want to Thank Wayne Wison and David Katzenmeyer and everyone that provided food and or desert. It was appreciated and devoured! Thanks to all that helped setting up and tearing down at the end. T=he BCD Board Members, Thanks Everyone! And Thanks to our great members and future members!

Thursday Mar 11, 2010. We had a reat turn out to listen to Dr. Pat Halpin talk to us about the mapping and illumination of our oceans. It was a great topic and Pat made it very interesting. We discussed the tagging of certain whales and how they monitor them. We should have Pat back again as I think he had a lot more to teach us about our oceans. We met at Champps agian and the service was particulary great tonight. Thanks, to the staff at Champps. Too bad we have to find a new location. As the weather gets warmer the room we use there will not work for us as it will get to hot. So once again we are in search of a new location. There will not be a meeting in April as we will be having our Annual Spring Party and Pig Pickin' with water World. All is invited and please feel free to bring family anf friends. There will be of course the "PIG", bbq chicken, salmon, and other great side dishes and deserts. Although no one is required to bring a side dish or desert, if you choose to do so we will be happy to eat it! we are not shy! I hope to see evryone there! Also we will be holding our 3rd Annual Used Eqipment sale that same morning from 11:00am till 4:00 pm. Please pre-register to insure that you get a spot on one of our tables!

Thursday Feb 18, 2010. Our first meeting of the New Year besides the Banquet. Most important, Mike Mantell is the President again for the 3rd year. We are very happy. The meeting was a travelogue given by me, Warren Sims, from Water World. we discussed where we have been, where we are going, and where we would like to go. There was a Power Point presentation with lots of information. We had a lot of particiapation from club members as travel is a big deal with most that attend our meetings. Next meeting will have Pat halpin as our guest speaker.

Saturday Jan 23, 2010. BCD's first Annual Banquet was a great success. Thanks to all that helped make this happen. Rick Allen was our guest speaker and he is a world reknown videographer. He gave a great presentation on ship wrecks he has worked on as well as a great presentation and video of the "Queen Ann's Revenge" here in NC. He was very interesting and everyone enjoyed his presentation. The service and food was great at Parizade's of Durham. We will be posting pics soon. We also held the results of the BCD Photo Contest. Arnie Weksler was the overall best of show. We also presented a "boat coat" to Mike Mantell our outgoing president for that last 2 years. Mike will remain a member of the board and has agreed to help us find a new president. We will be presenting the winners and their pics on the BCD web site soon. We did sell out the banquet. Thanks, to all involved.
