2008 / 2007 Bull City Divers Meetings
Tuesday Dec 16, 2008. BCD held our last meeting of the 2008 year at Water World. Ashley Perry and Jim Blair arranged food and drinks and did a great job. We had a donation jar to help with the costs and we recovered a fair amount of the expense. The spread was really nice. We only had 15 people show up but with the holiday season upon us I guess that is to be expected. We also kicked off our annual membership drive as well. So for all those wanting to sign up for the 2009 year please call us here at Water World and we will take care of that for you.
Tuesday Nov 18, 2008. We had a great presentation from Pete Nowrocky. This meeting was held at the Golden Corral in Durham. This was our first meeting at the Golden Corral and it went well. The presentation was great and the room we used was very nice. We also held elections and since no one was running against anyone the officers from this past year remained on the board. There were some changes as Ashley Perry is now our Vice President. It was also announced that Barbara Lothian will have to step down from her position as co-secretary. Mary Toms also stepped down as an at-large board member. Martin Wuerth will becaome an at-large board member. We will miss Barb and Mary and we thanked them for their service to the club this past year. We welcom Martin as our new at-large board member. Jim Blair is now an at-large board member as well. Jim was our Vice President but had to step down due to his work schedule. We look forward to working with Jim in his newest position on the board.
Tuesday Oct 21, 2008. We held our meeting at the Bennett Pointe Grill in Durham. This was our first meeting here as we are still trying to find that all allusive permenent place. The food was great and the service was wonderful as well. We only had 11 people show up but we still made the best of it. Mike showed the dvd of his trip to Bora-Bora and Ashley's video of Cayman Brac. we reported that we now have 91 members. Perhaps they got lost trying to find the new meeting place?
Tuesday, Sept 16, 2008. We held our first meeting at Parizade's in Durham. This is a very beautiful restaurant and the food and service was incredible. Mike Muller gave a great presentation on Dry suits and the upcoming DUI Dog Days Rally at Lake Rawlings Oct 18 and 19. The evening was started off with a tribute to the late Geaorge Purifoy. George passed away on Sep 14 doing what he loved the most. George was the owner of Olympus Dive Center in Morehead City. We have charted many dive trips with George over the years. He will be missed.
Tuesday, Aug 19, 2008. This was a social meeting where we shared cd's and dvd's and just had a fun time with all of our fellow divers. We also had a visit from a rep from Bill Beard's Costa Rica. We have a trip planned in Nov and we wanted to share another persons experience from Costa Rica. A fun time was had by all!
Tuesday, Jul 15, 2008. Joe Poe gave us a great presentation on Coco Island in Costa Rica. Joe had a great video to show us and a wonderful dialoge on his adventures there last year. We had 26 people show up at the CArolina Ale Houe in Durham. Dave Katzenmeyer won the 50/50 raffle and our own Greg Yavelak won the door prize drawing. This was a great meeting and we want to thank Joe and all that showed up.
Wednesday, June 18, 2008. The monthly meeting was moved to a Wednesday instead of our usual 3rd Tuesday. This was done so that we could get Stew Esposito, a Captain on a Live-a-board in Indonesia, to do a presentation. He gave a great presentation on the islands of Papau New Guinea and others. He had a great slide presentation and a video. It was a very entertaining meeing. Martin Wuerth won the first door prize BCD has offered. and our own, Janet Mantell won the 50/50 drawing. Congrats to both. It was a new meeting place as well. We usually go to the Carolina Ale House in Durham. The service was great and the food was great as well. A little on the noisy side. It seems that this is (Brier Creek CAH) a very popular "Happy Hour" meeting place in the Brier Creek shopping area. Tuesday May 20th, 2008. The BCD Monthly meeting took place at the Carolina Ale House in Durham. Mike Muller gave a great presentation on "De-Mystifying Digital Photography". It was well received and is a very popular topic with many of our members. If you are interested in getting certified in "Under Water Photography" please contact Eric at Water World.
Saturday, April 19th, 2008. The Water World / BCD Spring Party and Used Equipment Sale took place. The Used Equipment Sale was our first. We will be holding the sale again sometime in the Fall. The Party was a great success. The NC Revelers turned out to be a great swing/jazz band that "rocked" our socks off. The pig was incredible as was the many side dishes brought by our great customers. Tuesday Mar 18, 2008 This was our 3rd meeting, second "presentation" meeting. Our speaker was Wally Diehl. He talked to us about "Freediving". WW is sponsoring a "Freediving Clinic" in June. For more info click on the link. Freediving Clinic
Tuesday Feb 19, 2008 This was our first "Social" meeting and it was a great success. It was held at Carolina Ale House in Durham. Staff members from DAN was at the meeting and we had a mini presentation from Dr Neal Pollack from Duke University. He was looking for research subjects at Duke. Tuesday Jan 12, 2008 BCD first meeting of 2008 Held at Johnny Carino's in Brier Creek. The presentation was given by Eric Hawkins on the subject of PADI's Project AWARE.
